Stereo Vergence: Forced-Choice Flat Fusion Has Arrived

Now we've added forced-choice flat fusion exercises as a stepping stone to full stereopsis. Just look for Stereo Vergence in NeuroVisual Trainer's Interactive Exercises menu.

Stereo Vergence exercises use anaglyph glasses to work on binocular fusion and depth perception, but they're a bit more accessible for patients who may struggle with fusing fine detail. With Stereo Vergence, they can work on convergence, divergence, vertical alignment, and jumps, all without requiring the binocular precision needed to resolve a Vectograph or pick out that subtle 3-D target in Random Dot.

Stereo Vergence exercises are also perfect for younger patients who are just starting with vergence work, or who may need simpler images with less visual clutter.

As with all of NVT's interactive exercises, the vision therapist is in control, so everything is customizable to meet the needs and abilities of each individual patient. You can set time limit, or specify a certain number of breaks & recoveries. Choose a central fusion target, from any of NVT's vectograph images, to something flat like a ring or simple shapes. You can also opt to apply one of dozens of textures to increase visual detail and fusional demand.

Patients are shown four peripheral targets, one of which appears closer or farther away than the others. With good binocular control, they should be able to identify the correct target and lock in their answer using the corresponding arrow keys (or taps/swipes on touchscreen devices).

Unlike exploratory vectographs, where patients could keep pushing the vergence demand just to reach a "higher score," this format requires a correct selection to proceed. Incorrect responses (breaks) reduce the demand slightly, giving the patient an opportunity to regain fusion again (recovery).

Reporting is more useful, too. Objective patient input provides more reliable data than the subjective feedback you might get from vectographs alone. By capturing timed responses at each step and jump, you'll have more accurate and meaningful data to review in your patients' Progress Reports.
